Need one of the techies for that one. Could be you have conflict with another iwd file on your puter. Do a file search for any iwd files you may (and I think this is a big may) on your system.
You also might want to send to Activision support. This is a direct link into the Call of Duty 2 portion of their online support
https://activision.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/activision.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php?p_sid=z24tT5Wh&p_lva=&p_li=&p_page=1&p_cv=&p_pv=2.445&p_prods=1%2C445&p_cats=&p_hidden_prods=&prod_lvl1=1&prod_lvl2=445&p_search_text=&p_new_search=1&p_search_type=answers.search_nl&p_sort_by=dflt
Click on the "ask a question" tab and give them the info. They seem to be pretty good about getting back.

i am seeing that this error is not that uncommon. there are a few things to try listed
HERE
if you need help trying them give me a holler. the other fix i see is swap the game at the retailer where it was purchased.

I would have to Agree with Veritas.
It sounds like you have a bad CD or DVD or it could be a hardware issue with the CD Drive.

sounds like you have more of a software/hardware issue, than a problem with the game. You have any other problems not related to the game?

bin hurry... get your baseball bat and smash your computer the virus is spreading!!! and fast! seriously... sounds like a virus.. no sound period (you already mentioned you couldn't play the game(come on smoke was that really that hard lol) umm you should un-install everything you have disks for(and can re-install) and make a boot-up copy (full back up) then Defrag, compress, scan for viruses and even scan for spy ware.. after all that if your still having serious problems i would take a mighty bashing to your computer and kiss it bye bye.. send back cod 2 and save up more $$ for a new machine cuz it will most likely have to be either cleaned off (100% wiped clean) or just thrown away... bad news follows you like a rain cloud but cheer up now you get to spend more time on the boards and things are gonna brighten up!
