Lag at the beginning of maps
«

Hey all, just wanted to pass along a bit of info that may be helpful. For a long time while playing UO, maps would be really laggy/ jerky/ whatever u wanna call it for the first 2-3 minutes of each map. I have heard several on TS say the same thing. I recently added 512 MB of ram to push me to 1GB, and this has solved 99 % of the problem. Easy enuff huh
and I found it on sale for $38
Just FYI

More RAM is always a good thing. I've only got 512 myself, dont' notice any lag but am thinking of upgrading to at least 2Gb. Can't hurt! Maybe my maps will load a bit faster then.

Nope. We have everything set to download the custom maps from the webserver - which is completely seperate from the game server.

Shoot, having a real internet connection changed my map load time from 5 minutes at school (on crippled, flickery, T3) to about 30 seconds at home (from a wireless card to a cable modem that is rock solid at home)

Hey, C'HEE, I had the same problem, but for me it was buying a better data cable - $3.50 fix!
(and I was doing the herky, jerky beginning of map thing for up to 8 minutes!
)

Hmm, I don't recall having that lag with my 512 MB of RAM. But I'm still considering upgrading to 1GB just so things can run more better

I already had 512mb PC2100 Ram and then tried installing additional PC2700. It worked great for the nite I put it in. Next day my computer wouldn't start, this message poped up. Error- System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys
I tried a couple days ago again, this time windows starts up. Then after a mintue or two my computer restarts.

prolly one of the experts will correct this, but here goes: I *think* you may have one of two problems with that. 1) your ram doesn't match, and some ram is not backwards compatable. 2) your mobo may not accept pc2700 which I think is 333mhz fsb, I'm guessing pc2100 to be around 266mhz fsb. I suggest removing the pc2100 ram stick and see if it will run with just the pc2700 (the faster of the two) if not replace it with another stick of pc 2100.
OR
, buy a new mobo that will be compatable with your 2700 ram

Yea i tried puttin in the 2700 by itself and no dice. I saw on new egg a 512 pc2100 for 38 bucks. I think I might be getting that and pray to the gods of computers that it works.

if you boot in safemode and it "reboots" at mup.sys, then you might have the same problem I did. Don't knwo where it came from, but after trying hundreds of solutions (do a google search for mup.sys and you will see hundreds, if not thousands, of potential solutions to this problem), I ended up buying a new drive and re-installing Windows on it and starting all over. An expensive fix, but It works now.

I had the problem of lagging at the beginning too. Now I need to squeeze some money from my pocket to get one. Of coarse I have enough it's just that I'm working towards a car also. And also I'm a pennysaver.
