Ok, I've tried the things that i know..the one that is...
But i did use BigMark job to get a serial cable....
But i still lag at the beginning of the maps...
I recently changed the motherboard and chip...upgraded from p3 733 512 ram
To an AMD Sempron 2200 (1.5 gig) with the same ram, 7VM400M-RZ Motherboard
I didn't have the lag before i upgraded. But i did immediately after.
Also I always take a very long time to load the maps when they change... it did this before i upgraded. But it takes at least 3 or 4 minutes to load.
BigMark usually helps me, but with his new job he is awful busy

you may have some other un-necessary processes running in the background.

go here & run a full diagnostic, takes apx 2 minutes & is free. it will tell you what is run ning and if it is optional or necessary.
