i have played on this day a few times since it came to be.My thoughts are that maybe the base assaults should be taken out. it dosent seem to have anything to do with rifles any more.most just ride around with tanks and rockets.it seems to take away from the fun of rifle day

just another thought bigdawg if you or anyone has a particular combination they would like it never hurts to mention it.
like i put in a hq vikings omaha cause that sounds fun to me but you may think that stinks so then i have not helped any.
since bone has me making some of these changes myself now since i kept asking him questions i have to think of them all on my own sometimes and well you see how that works out.

i disagree.
"base assault" isn't any less about rifles just because they are tank maps, any more than tank maps on TDM days are not about guns. tanks are a part of the action because you need heavy weapons to breach the bunkers, but that is not the whole objective. getting inside, starting the explosives and guarding them against being defused is where the games are won or lost, and that's ALL about the rifles, since it's exclusively up to the foot-soldiers to accomplish. the tanks maps are also larger, and offer more sniping opportunities - the people who don't like tanks can take a rifle up into the hills and snipe people, esp once they start buzzing around the breached bunkers looking for bombs to blow up.
also, IMO, the BAS gametype most directly encourages teamwork and cooperation, which is a large part of what OBJ day is meant to be about. on the smaller maps playing HQ or DOM, i've seen a lot of players just run around killing people as though it was a normal team deathmatch day, paying no attention to the actual objectives like controlling radios. those objectives are fun, but don't require the same level of coordination as breaching a bunker, and covering the demo man as he goes inside to blow it up and get out alive...
i don't know what ratio there is with the BAS maps vs the other types, maybe we just have one too many. (do we have rhine valley, italy and ponyri? is there a fourth? maybe there could be a vote about which one to cut out, bringing it down to two or three BAS maps, instead of 3-4.)
but it would be a shame, i think, to take them out entirely. it's a fun change of pace, and rhine valley and ponyri aren't all about the tanks on BAS day any more than they are any other day of the week, IMO.
thoughts?
end of line.

arc you forgot foy. I am tank fan and most know this, but i like to take with a little more firepower for tyhe incase i have to bail .I am not the best rifler in the world.so if all i have to deal with is other rifles then i am cool with it. taking a rifle into the hills or buildings will only mark you a target for the tank. i know youve seen your share of that 88 mm shell coming towards you in the scope.
it also seems that few people hang around for the base assaults .they either go to spec and then a break or take off for later return.veritas it dont matter too too much the map as long as the feild dosent favour either side too heavly. maybe we could throw in a tdm for a map or 2? i have heard mention of this sugestion.
but dont get me wrong v and bone and any one else that makes this server go are very much unsung heros in my book and you all seem to work very hard so every one can just have fun . So heres a big cheers for you.

there are tanks on foy?!? all i've even seen is that 88 in the SE corner!
but seriously, maybe four BAS maps in the thursday rotation is too much; they are also longer than other OBJ maps. of those four, i would take out italy (too big, not enough town) and rhine valley (same reason). i'd leave in foy and ponyri, since they are kinder to infantry men and have enough nooks and crannies that you can better avoid the tanks.

i've only played on two or three of the thursdays since OBJ was recently revived, but the times i did play, the rifles were pretty effective - kibbles totally owned me in rhine valley. but i hear what you're saying, and any map that bring participation to a standstill isnt good. so maybe we can have only 2 BAS maps instead of all four, so the ratio of BAS to non-BAS is more favourable to the tighter, faster-paced maps and gametypes. i'd like to see some BAS, maybe we just need to cut back a little?
end of line.

i'd love to do some good, old-fashioned capture-the-flag. seems like a natural gametype for a war-based shooter.
end of line.

Maybe it’s just me, but Thursdays are a huge adjustment. To be honest at this time, it’s to much adjustment for one day. So often I just don’t bother.
