Finally got around to seeing "Letters From Iwo Jima" today and was blown away.  It really brought the war home from another perspective.  The only drawback for some viewers is that the film is subtitled since most of it is in Japanese, only one scene was in English.  Conversely, it added a sense of realism that wouldn't have been there if it was in English.  I didn't like "Flags of Our Father's" as much as this film, but both are worth watching together.  I'll give "Letters From Iwo Jima" 5 out of 5 woofs.

Well, I've seen some movies recently, just never talked about em. But since the thread got moved up top and it's oscar night, I'll mention a few.

Last King of Scotland - I really liked this one. Knew very little about Idi Amin, other than he was an African dictator. The movie is a somewhat fictionalized account of Amin's rise to power. Forest Whitaker is sweet as always, and if he wins the oscar it will be because he was absolutely terrifying in this movie. 4 outta 5 woofs

Pan's Labrynth - Possibly my favorite movie of the past year. Very beautiful, very violent.  Little girl goes on an fairytale adventure in the middle of spainish civil war. I highly reccomend it. 5 outta 5 woofs

Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait - This technically came out overseas a few years ago, but it played at our local center for the arts a few weeks ago. The movie was filmed in 2005 with 17 HD cameras all aimed at Zidane, international soccer star/headbutter extrordinaire, throughout an entire match. This movie is an art film, not a highlight reel and should be reviewed as such. Mogwai does an original score for the movie, which is awesome. I can't really describe the movie, nor why I liked it so much, but if you see it coming to your town, give it a shot. 5 outta 5

'kay, that's all I got for now. Happy Oscar night.  Cheesy

Finally got around to seeing Spiderman 3.  I'm glad I caught the matinee showing.  It was OK, but not worth the price of evening admission.  The effects were good, the story not so good.  I'd give it 2 woofs.

Agreed, should've waited for the rental.

Also saw Shrek 3 with the kiddies.  I wouldn't even give it 2 woofs  Tongue

For the moviegoer who enjoys their raunchy comedies smart and well written, I suggest Knocked Up. Hilarious. Sex jokes, filthy language, and drug references abound, but the movie has good intentions. Anyone who enjoyed the 40 Year Old Virgin should certainly see it.

4 woofs!

Knocked Up, just came out on DVD last Tuesday.  As Hans stated, its raunchy, but very funny too.

Also, Blackbook came out last Tuesday as well.  Its based in WWII, in occupied Holland.  It is subtitled, adult themed (Violence, Nudity, & Nazis), and very entertaining.  I enjoyed it.
