My ping lately has been higher than ususal and i was wondering if X-Fire has anything to do with that, or what the problem may be?  My ping was in the 200's and it's usually in the 50-80 range.

Background programs can affect your ping, but usually not to that level.  When I play I have XFire, my firewall, and virus scan software active in the program tray.  There are other things that can affect your ping too.  One of the more common issues to my knowledge is the route that your computer takes to get to the server.  If one of the jumps on that route is slow or timing out it can start affecting your ping.  You can run a program called "Tracert" in the MS-Dos prompt to track your connection to the server.  Just type "Tracert 66.135.38.86" and press enter.  Do this a couple of times to get a good idea of what your connection route and to help ID any jumps that are issues.  Another thing is check for spyware and other types of malware on your computer, they do bog your machine down.  Also goto a site www.pcpitstop.com and it can run a scan to see other things that are going on with your computer.
