Umm well Lt prolly can help you wolf but where bouts you from...?  i live in central texas and started bow hunting when i was 16... shot at one deer and shot a few varmits... i use a compound bow i got from a friend and then a 45 lb recurve bow also... both are great... how old is your son?  that would depend on what to get him started on.. and i assume you have one also?  i would go for a more expensive new age type... the smaller ones ... which are also lighter and an easier pull back... but i wouldn't expect you to pay more than $300 heck prolly no more than $200. I would also advise you to get a bow yourself so you can shoot along with your son.  A shooting block... the layered ones made from layered styrofoam are awesome and will stay together along time... arrows... you should measure his arm span and divide it in half and see how that is for him... at full pull back arrow  head top should be approx 2-4 inches away from any part of the bow a good sighting tool if the bow doesn;t come with one... a wrist guard and a mechanized release.. the release is strictly per- choice.. it gives u less of a "feel for the bow" but allows some control over release.... ie.. its the same release over and over and over.. it will never change... umm and then you get into hunting clothes... which could be talked about forever!.. ok well let me know how that is... cabela's is an excellent place to start looking btw.. ok  later BOZ

Hey  thxs Boz ....
My son is going to be 10 in Sept. We live in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Not to far from Mt. Rushmore. I don't have a bow right now. I have always been a rifle man but I like the options that the bow hunters have and license's that are available for the bow hunter are better also.... I hear Mattews bows are good??? Any truth in that?
