On my old computer, running windows me, I had a program called winsolo. Worked great, especially for running apps that were a little too much for ole betsy (like burning an audio cd at more than 4x)...If that program works like the one i had, it should be great for people who have a slightly older, slower computer....one thought tho, you may have to customize it for COD4 and punkbuster....PB may not like it...

You sir, are just plain wrong.
I have to boot into windows to play cod4 online, cod works, but punkbuster doesnt (and probably never will, PB uses some DEEEEEP windows api's that wine simply cant mimick). My windows is extremely bare bones tho, almost no services or apps at all - it looks like safe mode almost
Every other game I can run in ubuntu
(TRACKMANIA VROOM VROOM - 21st in NC out of 1100!
)
I did use to use something similar tho, back in my prehistoric days of windows. Made a batch script that killed anything and everything that would suck up precious resources whilst playing, one script to game, another to return to "normal". Those little 2% and 1% cpu programs make a difference when you have about 20 of em running while playing
