I think it is unfair that I am being called out on this one Tongue - I was a victim as well in that case (our entire campus in a matter of hours - oh the headaches!)

In other news, I spent 4.5 hours cleaning a computer with the Smit.Fraud virus the other night.  That was fun Grin

I have found that if a system is unusable for cleaning, and this is more tech oriented I know (and dangerous) - a liveCD that can read/write ntfs partitions works well too - for getting rid some nasty files that cannot otherwise be deleted.  Just make sure you dont delete something important, or at least, keep them just in case Wink /lessonlearned

Sometimes, if you are lucky and know which virus you have and it happens to be (un)popular in the webbynet - an exectuable 'fix' can be found.  They usuallt aren't pretty, but get the job done.  Google helps the most there.

I hurt on the inside after the harsh tinkering comments Sad

I just stated the infection came from you, remembering how that virus worked, the only way to stop it was disconnecting from the internet.  It made for a "fun" night.

While I had about 5 people send it to me... I remained completely unaffected... I wonder why?  Tongue

I was actually thinking I didn't accept unsolicited tantalizing sounding attachments sent via a messaging system.   Tongue  But thanks sox, you have also pointed out the relative lack of vulnerability of the Macintosh OS once again.  Thanks.  Smiley

Actually the virus that was unintentionally distributed by the fish wasn't an attachment.  It just used MSN to distribute itself.  Whomever wrote that virus knew what they were doing.

As for the lack of viruses on the doorstop, if you want to cause chaos, you attack the largest block of OS's out there, not one that barely accounts for 10%.
