Not really a question... more mining for information.  Tongue

We've talked a bit about browsers and how IE is awful  Tongue in another thread.  I was wondering about what browsers you use and decided to make a poll.  Vote for up to 5 you use frequently.  You will be judged on your answers!  Lol.

Soooo....funny story about firefox 3...

i was browsing some not-so-nice sites last night...I usually use Internet Explorer, but have recently been using firefox more...while on one of those not-so-nice sites, i got a nasty and my computer was infected with a couple of viruses/spyware....got it all cleaned up, but makes me think, I haven't had a virus on my computer in 10+ years while using Internet Explorer, but i use firefox and, well...

I like how the blame is on firefox not the actions of the person browsing.   Tongue Roll Eyes  I bet firefox on the mac would have been fine.  Wink

No. I don't think I'll ever get over Macho Grande.

Virus-free perhaps, but no way doing anything on a mac would be fine.

Bone should recall this, but I think it might have been a Mac that our college's sports reporter used to block an incoming baseball. That was a good use I thought. Smiley

wish I still had that pic...busted laptop monitors look interesting.

Looks like the new version of Exploder is going to be a resource hog in the private browsing setup, according to Tom's Hardware.  Granted its based upon the beta version of IE8, but know Micro$loft, it won't change much in the standard version.   I'll stick with FF.

A resource hog?  No way!!!!   Roll Eyes    I don't know, even if they put out a decent browser I bet I wouldnt' use it.  At least they can come up with something more standards compliant than the horrific (in that and other regards) exploder 7.x

Downloaded the beta version of Google Chrome today, and have been playing around with it.  Looks nice, but not on par with FF yet.  But it definitely has potential.  Really like when you type into the address bar the browser searches for common web sites that use those letters in that order.  Cuts a step out at some points.  But I'll take a wait and see approach on it.  Really curious as to its safety features to prevent malware from getting onto my rig.

I also downloaded Chrome today.  The main thing I liked about it was the fact everything was very smooth, very streamlined.  And it also was pretty light on the system resources.  Still not replacing my ff yet, but its not a bad start.

Us linux noobs are still waiting for the linux release.. But, as far as footprint, speed, etc - chrome is winning hands down.

On the fair side, many people were very iffy with firefox at version 1 as it was very basic, and just starting.  I think if google follows through (and can now watch our every move and not just google searches and email Wink) and actively develops her..  then the browser world is in for excitement Smiley

Now, bets on GoogleOS?  (gOS is already taken Tongue)

link! http://news.cnet.com/8301-1001_3-10030888-92.html?part=rss

and one of the comments for those interested:

Quote
http://www.rybazoom.com/browsermips/ does javascript benchmarking. Firefox scores about 4000 on my mac mini, and Chrome about 10500. So a 2.5x speed increase.
My swiftfox scored about a 9000 - so we shall see (UNSCIENTIFIC BUT FUN NONETHELESS)

The one thing I really miss in chrome is the middle click auto-scroll.  I didn't realize how much I used that until I couldn't. :/
