Prior to my Motherboard cooking breakfast (fried), I had both a PCI Express (BFG GTX 260) and a PCI (gForce FX 5200) video cards in my computer.  The PCIe would work but not with the PCI.  I originally thought that it was a driver issue.  Both cards were Nvidia.  But then I removed the PCI video card and installed an ATI PCI card (which was very old).  It did the exact same thing.  The OS recognized it, just like the gForce, but it would say that it is not operating correctly.

I have returned the PCI card (along with the mobo) back to Newegg.  Any ideas?  I have heard you could split the DVI display using a splitter.  Didn't know if anyone else had any ideas.

BTW, the mobo is a evga nForce 780i SLI board.  I have read that some mobo's will not handle both PCIe and PCI video cards, but in theory, it should work.  I need to get 3-4 monitors out of this system using this board.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, my replacement mobo will not get here until mid Jan. (at least another week).

it's a bit more expensive, but cant you try 2 pci express cards?  im sure the board has dual slots (or maybe not? )  there are cheaper pciexpress card out as well...
like you said, in theory, it should work....what OS are you using?  can you try a 64bit os?

whats the exact message/error you get?

I have never heard of splitting the DVI signal.  How many screens do you have? 4?  Can you just buy another GTX 260 they are around 200 now.  If you do get another card make sure you have enough power to supply it.

make sure the bios is set to PCI as the primary card to boot with.

You can split dvi signals

Many new pci-e video cards now have 2 dvi outputs for two monitors.  Most of the newer cards do this.
