The Moose is On the Loose!

WWW
« on: August 26, 2009, 10:15:22 PM »

My (main) PC is dead.   1 month before the warranty is up, thank goodness.  So I will be leaving it behind tomorrow to get it fixed - think most likely that the PS died - hopefully taking nothing along with it.  Anyone had a PS die where it caused damage to other components?  At least one of my HD's is just fine - I removed it and put it in an external enclosure and its all good... so at least I didn't pull an OB.  Wink  Tongue

Until then - long live my laptop and my two MACS!

The only PS I had go out was on my first computer an old 386 machine.  It didn't damage any other components from what the guy who did the repairs said.  But that was 14 years ago and I was oblivious to what makes a PC tick.

I had to replace my bros PS after the power went out and took the PS with it.  I replaced the bad PS with my old one and everything worked fine no problems.  Good luck!!

In some small way I almost wish this wasn't under warranty - or I'd already have a new PS in there myself.  Of course, it might not be the PS etc... could have bricked the mobo or something.   Oh well, we shall see.   At least I have a laptop.  Smiley

I've had the same experience . . . mostly just sparks flying and magic smoke swirling about.  Everything else was fine.

I've had the same experience . . . mostly just sparks flying and magic smoke swirling about.  Everything else was fine.

Thankfully it was not like that, it died quietly in the night.

HOWEVER - the company that I bought the system from (they built it for the sole reason that I thought 50 bucks for a 1 year warranty was worth it) told me today they want to send the PS back to Antec who will fix it, and send it back in 2-3 weeks.  I was about to go off a bit on the guy today in the store but he had some thing about where they thought I hadn't really bought it from them or something (it was bundled with the case but doesn't show on the receipt).  So if I show up with the box (which I have) they will put in a new equivalent PS.  Wow - what a concept!  Next system I may just build myself and if the PS blows - I'll have a new one in it in a few hours - not this kind of warranty shennanigans.

If the box idea doesn't pan out tomorrow I may be creating an in-store disturbance, which is already partially planned out.

SHENNANIGANS!

The "hug fest"   Roll Eyes has been averted for now.

They took the box I brought in and said a brand new PS would be in my machine tomorrow and ready to pick up at the end of the day.  If they had asked for the box initially, said I needed to bring one in, or had somehow otherwise mentioned the box, I wouldn't have been put in the position yesterday if envisioning a police incident.  At least it once again appears their warranty is actually worth something...  we shall see what tomorrow brings.

You should perform your "Disturbance" any way . . . just for kicks . . . .to see if there is really a "hug fest" down at county.

Take one for the team Yimmy!

P.S. Hope your computer gets fixed by 11.10.09
