have you tried to reinstall?  i think something gets installed with it called c++ runtime or something, just might need to be reinstalled.

Is this the answer from ea?
Solution for Physical Copies

   1. Create a folder on your Desktop and name it BC2
   2. Insert the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 disc.
   3. Right-click on the disc drive where you inserted the game and choose Explore.
   4. Click on the Edit menu (at the top of the Explorer window) and choose Select All.
   5. Now, click on Edit once again and choose Copy.
   6. Go back to your Desktop and open the BC2 folder you just created.
   7. Click on Edit and select Paste.
   8. Once all files are copied to the BC2 folder on the Desktop, open the Support folder found there.
   9. Find the localization.ini file and right-click it. Choose the Edit option.
  10. Find a line that reads installvc8redist=1.
  11. Replace the line above with installvc8redist=0.
  12. Save the changes you just made to the localization.ini file.
  13. Launch the Setup file in the BC2 folder you created on your Desktop.

if that doesn't work, you could try manually (re)installing the vc8run pakcage from microsoft..

I've had to do that before if a dll goes borked or missing.  (and there are so many runtimes!)
