So i broke down and decided to buy the game. I bought the digital version so I could just download it. Once I got the game installed I opened it and attempted to play. Well...every time it gets to the connecting to a server screen, for single player or multiplayer. It just closes the game back to the desktop. No error message, nothing. Game just shuts down. Any ideas? Is this a firewall issue maybe?

No. I don't think I'll ever get over Macho Grande.

I attempted to shut off my windows firewall which to my knowledge is the only firewall im currently running on my machine. And tried the singleplayer, same thing, it gets to the screen describing about pre-bombing of Japan etc....then just closes the game and goes back to my desktop. So im officially at a loss for ideas.

Did you get the game from Steam?  Try this:  Right click BFBC2 -> Properties -> Local Files -> Verify integrity of game cache
It will probably download some new files.  Hopefully this helps.

Schniz try this out see if it works, if it doesn't here's a website with a lot of fixes.

Problem #1.3 : Bad Company 2 crashes when accessing the server browser
Solution: Disable the “Software protection” services from services.msc. to get there, go to “Start > Run > “Services.msc”
For windows 7 users, it’s in:
“go to your control panel.. for me I have windows 7… under System and Security click Administrative tools, it will bring up a new windows with Event viewer.
under the same windows for Admin tools go to services from that window and Software Protection will be in that list.”

I read a couple places that uninstalling reinstalling worked for a few ppl to fix the problem.

I could always do it again...but the first uninstall/reinstall attempt resulted in failure...same problem as before.

I purchased Dragon Age:Origins from Steam, it ran fine on Vista, but when I installed it on my new desktop running XP it had an issue where the program appeared to start, but then nothing, no error message, no anything.  The problem turned out to be the C++ runtime version I had, the installer didn't properly update it, so I did it manually and all was well from then on.  Might try to track down the library that BC2 needs and see if you can find a proper copy from Microsoft.
