Long "Enter Battle" delay.
«
on:

Anyone else getting a very long delay , especially on a round start when you hit "Enter Battle" ? Sometimes it takes 2-5 clicks before I spawn.
I have tried researching it and all agree it's the real time A/V program (any of them) I have added the appropriate files to the exclusion list and even turned it off, still happening...
I'm using an ATI 5870 2gb on a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. 8gb RAM on a Raid 0 setup.
Any help with this would be appreciated, I build/repair systems daily and not sure what could be causing this other than software.
Thanks in advance!

It may be caused by an anti-virus program. I was experiencing it myself for about a week. After doing some digging with the help of Google, I found that AVG was causing it. Try this link here, its how I fixed my issue.

Hopefully this will fix the issue.
Good luck!

If that didn't do it, try a search in the EA forums and with Google. That is how I eventually found my answer.

The answer is 42, but I don't think we really know what the question is.

Hey Lux,
Are you trying to spawn on someone when you hit Enter Battle? If that's it, sometimes when the person your trying to spawn on is in a bad
position it won't let you spawn on them. Like when they are in the water or in between objects or next to some rocks on hillsides, you have to
hit enter battle over and over till they more to the right position to give you enough room to spawn. By the way nice rig, can I borrow your vid card?
I'll give it back I promise.

I wish. This is usually at the beginning of a round. Very annoying to see everyone running on my screen and my button changing from live to "grayed-out' a bunch of times. Latest record is 10 clicks, happened last night.
You don't want my card, it comes with a 30 year mortgage at 29.9% variable interest. I'll be finished paying for it in 2040 , give or take.
A small sacrifice, groceries for 6 months. Like I told my daughter when she questioned the "investment." "You ate last week, didn't you"?

Yeah that's quite an expensive card you got. I'll have to pass on the variable rate for that one.lol I know ATI had
problems with the 5000 series cards and their load times in the beginning of a map, but I think once the map loaded
the Enter Battle time was the same as everyone else. The ATI vid card driver 10.4 took care of the load times, it went
from 45 to 50 seconds to about 10 seconds. What driver version are you running? The AV work around didn't work
for you huh?

Wow...afk to kick myself.
I had updated drivers under Vista when I got the card. Forgot about the recent Windows 7 install. I'm glad you mentioned it, I was using 8.7 lol.
Hopefully updated drivers help
Thanks again!
**EDIT** I was hoping this was it. I had Catalyst 10.4 Software Suite, which includes driver 8.27, sighs.
** EDIT1.1** Note! This driver is provided as is and is not supported by AMD. It has not completed full AMD testing, and is only recommended for users experiencing the particular issue described above. This release is not supported by ATI Radeon™ HD5800 Eyefinity 6 series of products.
That's EXACTLY what I have, the Eyefinity 6 model, which is sad since I'm down to one display. The irony...

So strange...the delay was gone and now it's back, with a vengeance.
Once I hit "enter battle" graphics freeze for a solid 30 seconds or better. Very frustrating. Only on map start-ups, never once the game is running and I'm trying to spawn on a squad member or point.
Any ideas? I have excluded the entire folder from the AV program and updated drivers.

Perhaps your computer is scared you might lose your tags to Hoffa and it's making you think about what you are doing?

No wonder I can't get your tags. I've been looking for them in the wrong spot.

Don't quote me on this, and I can't find the source.. but I think this is an issue that has been fixed or will be fixed in this or the next patch.
The problem is every time you spawn, your settings (kit related, i can't recall) are written to disk. This is why AV programs cause the lag as they monitor all disk writes and can bottleneck.
Like I said, I remember very clearly reading that the IO issues on spawning were fixed and re-organized to prevent constant disk activity like that, i just can't remember if it is the patch coming next week or the patch planned for after this one (at this rate, that patch might come around christmas time)

I figured as much...I've already excluded the folder/files, my next step will be to just turn off real time protection. Thanks for the tip
