Hey guys I am about at my wits end on this.My problem and this started 3 weeks ago, I was playing cod waw almost had all my prestige and boom it said while loading the map asylum that I had a diffrent version and got the boot.Tryed to get back in and it wouldn't let me do it.Restarted the game and once I got back all my prestige was gone. Fine whatever, but then I started my way back up the ladders when the game locked up, on certain maps the map pic doesn't show and I see a checker board of brown and blue . Here is what I have done; turned the computor back to when it was fine, unistalled the game and re patched, un and re installed the video card drivers to newest one and  a rolled back version, updated direct x,monitor for vid card temp, pulled 2 of my 4 gig memory sticks (per a forum I found). This issue has been mostly on cod but in another game called runes of magic my mouse cursor has gone missing and I sometimes cant relog. the errors I come up with says direct 3 device 9 error. My card  temp was when it crashes is around 60 deg Celsius. What is the problem here? my card is only about a year old, its a nivda 8500 gt.

Please help and if you want I can hop on vent sometime

echoooooooooooo!  sorry dawg, i got nothin for ya.

maybe, try running driver sweeper,
http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/
remove anything nvidia related (video only)
if it's your chipset software, leave it there.

then reinstall the driver.
make sure you are getting the proper version

also, update direct x here

I know you said you already tried all of this, but it's worth the shot i guess.

Yeah I didn't have any other ideas either...   Huh

... but you did just get a Pink Floyd song stuck in my head.

whelp in that case, another guess would be a faulty power supply or more likely, failed or failing hard drive. check out UBCD here:
It's got alot of cool tools that load under dos, and you will be able to run a hard drive diagnostic from it.  Seatools for dos by seagate is for seagate/maxtor drives, but it will also let you scan other brands.

you will probably need to get access from another computer to get ubcd and burn it to a cd.

if that's not viable, then go ahead and try out hdscan
http://hddscan.com/
it can be installed and run in windows, however, since you are having problems, you might need to see if it will run in safe mode after you install it.
