I bought the headset today, plugged it in, it prompts the installation instructions. Then after attempting, it wont do it, saying it cant find the software. Any help?

Try this site.  Its Logitech's support page for that headset.

windows xp?
or vista, or 7?

either one, try running windows update, and check for optional updates/hardware updates.  might show some drivers, just make sure the headset is connected.

Windows likes to think it can handle whatever you plugin.   I never allow the auto install nonsense from windows to do anything.  You (apparently) do not need drivers for this headset (According to the page smoke posted  Tongue) - it should just work.   Make sure you have your sound settings set to use it for voice input/output though.  This may also be necessary both in the system and a program like Ventrilo.

Another idea I had is to right click on the speaker symbol in the task bar and select open.  Take a look to see if the computer is recognizing that you have it plugged in.  You may want to try it in another USB port also.  There could be the off chance that port you tried may be dead or failing.
