OK, I give.  BO MP keeps crashing.  Im fine in SP no crashes so far.  When in MP, I'm able to play a map or two then it will randomly crash.  In pulling up the report from Vista, I get this.

I've done a search on the AppHangB1 and tried the solutions there, but no luck.  Outside of waiting for the patch (I'm thinking MOHAA may see another patch before BO sees one), does anyone have any ideas?

Mp patch coming out tomorrow - hopefully that will help.   Personally I blame vista - I have not crashed once using Win7 (64bit).

the game never crashed at all since it came out, then the other night I crashed 3 times, all within 2 or 3 maps.  I know there is alot of this happening.  It's also happened in other games.
some solutions I would try:

The obvious, update video drivers and direct x. or alternatively, you might want to get a previous version of your video drivers that you know worked before the game was released.  Not a popular solution, but they do release faulty drivers once in a while.

another one that actually might work, try running the game with your antivirus turned off.  again not so popular, but i've seen people say that it worked, more often than you think.  or, if you don't like that, some a/v programs let you designate an entire folder to keep off limits, try that with the steamapps folder located in the program files/steam folder.

try the same with any kind of firewall you have.  funny thing about the other night.  I have comodo firewall (just installed it before that night i crashed 3 times, so i was about to uninstall it)  there's an option to select "gaming mode".  never crashed after that.  either disable the software firewall or see if it has a game mode.

I updated my drivers last week, but it is crashing with both the old and new drivers installed so I'm guessing that is not it.  DirectX is up to date, same version that came with the game.  I'll take a shot at the antivirus (AVG)being turned off, haven't tried that yet.  Firewall (Windows version) is set to allow the game through.  Worse comes to worse, I'll have to be patient and wait for the patch.

Disabled my virus scan and no luck.

Black Ops Patch tonight 11/19//2010
Nov 19, 2010 - 6:39pm EST
A new patch will be released tonight in the coming hours. Because this is a client side patch, all servers will need to be patched as well. We will be applying the patch to all servers globally. During this patch application, your server will be restarted once in order for your server to take the update.

Sad part, they haven't mentioned the patch on the COD boards or the community managers twitter page.  Gameservers and Steam have the info at least.  But I seriously doubting the patch will fix my issue looking at it.

Patch did NOT fix my issue.  Going to disable my virus software and hope for the best.  Guess I'll send a rage letter to Activision to go with the other couple million they have received.

Found a possible solution, but need to edit the .cfg file.  But in order to do so, I need software that allows me to open the file in Vista.  Any one know of software that will do the the trick?

just a heads up tho, rename the original .cfg file to something else just incase you break it.
in order to save it properly, you might need to go to the folder options in the control panel, click the view tab, and deselect the option to hide extensions for known fiiletypes.   this will let you see the .cfg extension, and let you save it from notepad.

Notepad doesn't work.  I'm guessing since it is installed by steam, there must be another way to do it.  And yes, I am signed on as a system administrator.

I changed mine in notepad fine.  Try again!  Tongue  Make sure you save it as a text file though.
