I a bit frustrated.  Earlier while playing Rift my computer crashed and now I have no video transmitting.  I just recently installed two new video cards in a Crossfire configuration.  Thinking there was an error one one of the cards I removed one and tested it with no luck, then I switched the other card in and still no video.  I then took out the new cards and put in the old card and still am not getting any video.  I'm thinking it is either a problem with the motherboard or power supply.  The power supply is working since I am getting power to the cooling fans as well as the fan on top of the heat sink.  Unfortunately, I have no way to hook up a speaker to listen for post error sounds that I can find.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

Here is my mobo:  http://www.msi.com/product/mb/770-G45.html#/?div=Overview

could be a mobo problem.  could be ram or cpu.  i would do the same with the ram as well (if you have more than one) try one at a time.

then try disconnecting everything from the mobo. You have any lights/led's that could give you error signals along with post beeps?  no speaker at all, they usually have them built into the mobo.  cant take one out of an older computer just to check? dont have one of these guys layin around?

what power supply do you have in there? do you have another just to check?  i would see if you have any spare parts around and swap em out to see.

I'm guessing its the mobo.  I plugged in both my keyboards (USB and PS2) and they are not getting any power.  After unplugging the fans I could hear the hard drive spinning.  I'm still looking for a spot to plug in a speaker to listen for post error tones, but don't see one.

looking at the manual, the pins are at jfp2

but those don't look like your standard connector.  I don't know if that will work.  that connector is for the "standard" case connector.

Tried those, no luck.  Ordered a new mobo last night.  Hopefully, the processor wasn't damaged.

I think fishy gets to turn over the crown for breaking things - it seems to always be you that is having computer issues these days.  You haven't taken up "tinkering" have you?    Tongue

No, I don't tinker.  Tinkering involves software and the OS.  I just break hardware.

Just bad luck I guess then?

Good news, bad news.  Good news the new mobo is here.  Bad news, my power supply got fried too.  Going over to a computer store in the morning that specializes in parts for gaming rigs.  Best Buy is the other option for parts in town, but they are out of the higher wattages.

So what might be the scenario here - the PS went originally and took out the mobo with it?  Is your original mobo even fried?  Why do you keep frying power supplies?

The PS went down and managed to take the mobo and a stick of RAM with it.   I just got it working again!  Now all I need to do is update my drivers for the sound card.    As for losing multiple PS, the first one I lost was because I failed to clean it out.  Around here dust is a major issue and takes out its fair share of computers.  At work there is a company that comes in and cleans out all of the computers (registers and normal computers) once a month.  That one I never did clean out and paid the price.  The latest PS was my own idiocy too.  Remember class to add up your wattages before adding hardware to ensure you have enough power Roll Eyes
