Can you guys fix it?

Ok...so my gfs laptop is probably on its last legs anyway, but ever since she went home this past week and hooked back up to her parents WIFI her browsers have started giving her certificate errors on pretty much every page she visits, even yahoo mail, and sites such as that. None of these have ever given her problems before.
I tried doing a few things like clearing the cache, history, cookies, etc. And tried tinkering with the browser security settings on both Firefox and IE. But nothing worked. Do you guys have any thoughts on what might be causing the problems or any possible resolutions?

I dont think using other wifi could be the culprit here, it's probably just a coincidence. Since certificates are dated, have you made sure that the system date/time is correct?
one other thing i can think of is there was an add-on/extension recently installed. double check versions of java (
www.java.com
) and flash (
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
) to be sure they are up to date. This should be done regularly anyways to avoid possible security threats.
It's happening in firefox as well? try running firefox in safe mode. Don't confuse this with running windows in safe mode. Firefox has an option to run without any addons or extensions for trouble shooting purposes. It's usually located in the start menu under programs/mozilla firefox/firefox (safe mode). Try and reproduce the errors. If you don't get any, look to see if any addons could be the culprit. Check under Tools/Add-Ons.
If I think of anything else, I will let you know.
Oh and i almost forgot, you might want to do a virus scan. this is also a possiblilty.

Are you running FF4 or IE9? I know a few of the add-ons I had on FF3.6 aren't working on FF4 yet and they are currently disabled. As for IE9 I don't use IE at all so I don't know if there is an issue there.

Smokie I think you might have hit it. You reminded me. Her time and date are totally wrong which my cousin implicated that it might be the battery on the motherboard going out. What are your thoughts on that?

Not in laptops but when the date/time has gone on me it has always been the internal battery. Easy to change in a desktop, don't know about a laptop.

I think that some laptops have a battery that's for date/time, like a desktop, but not all. and some of them are soldered on. To know for sure, you might want to google the make/model of the laptop to see for sure. Sometimes they just rely on the battery for that stuff. but I think most/all newer ones have an internal battery.

ok cool, thanks everyone for the help.
Changing the time and date to the current date solved the issue with the certificates, now to see if its possible to resolve the issue of keeping the time and date current. Appreciate it.
