I've been playing the bots and learning the classes.  it is indeed silly.

Lots of stats.  Lots of stuff to do. Many different gametypes weve not seen before.  game came out in '07, but its still heavily maintained/updated (massive patch just came out - free to play now).

Free 2 play is cool and not so restrictive, buying anything within the game makes you a 'premo' member. (LIKE HATS ZOMG)

I recommend this game for when you aren't wow/rifting.  For real.

Source engine is not taxing on the system, if you can play wow/rift, you can play this with ease.

The dialogue / cartoony / silliness of it all is what makes it.

Bonking someone over the head with a baseball bad / tuna fish / shovel makes me giggle every time. EDIT:  ITS MACKEREL NOT TUNA MY BAD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISIoqu6DUOA&feature=player_embedded

The classes are well balanced and each are quite unique (still learning how to use some)
Scout: Baseball bat as a main weapon.  Runs fast.  double jumps.  and takes control points twice as fast
Soldier: Bazooka as a main weapon.  Note:  Bazooka in this game is not like a noob tuber. (mid damage - mid 'armor')
Pyro: Flamethrower as a weapon, lotsa damage but goes down quick
Demoman: grenade launcher as a weapon (and sticky bombs!)
Heavy:  Big dude.  Bug gun.
Engineer:  Build stuff (like teleporters, sentry guns)
Spy:  Disguise as the enemy, stab em in the back (with a butterfly knife!) also handy for disabling turrets from those pesky engineers Easily the hardest class to master
Sniper: as you would expect.  not like bc2 where its 20snipers vs 20 snipers either, this seems to take some skill
Medic: Heal your allies.  Make them Uber to be ivincible!

The gametypes are interesting too.  Control points is a typical 'who can control all the points type', King of the hill is a "take the mountain and keep it", ctf, and a neat 'racec the carriage through the train tracks" gametype that is won by moving a car along a track by being near it.  first team the end wins.  (some other gametypes ive not seen yet).

There are a ton of stats with the game, and i know how we like stats.

The community is actually pretty awesome.  Tho that might change slightly now that everyone can play it.

"Finding" new items as far as I can tell is completely random, but you can 'craft' new items (as well as buy) too.  Also, hats.

Fishy gives it a 7.5.  I can see how this game has been so popular for so long.

We love TF2 in our house.  Fisticuff is really good, he goes by wacopiper.  His favorite class is sniper......with a bow n arrow!  I suck but go by the name battlepiper.  Look us up.
