I have just about 20yrs riding under my belt and never fails to tick me off every time i light the fires in my hog and rumble off to work or where ever i may be heading and see some "idiot" blow a stop sign or red light.Other then the oops i vr got to turn here with out a signal light or any other indacation of direction change my biggest pet peeve would have to be when i am stopped at alight or stop sign the cage driver will get right on my tail so close i can tell if they need a shave.Uasly all i have to do give a long stare over my shoulder and at the next stop they give the proper amount of distance beteewn us.
I like to think that the straight wide open pipes i run has defintely saved me from some serious mishaps as cars, trucks or whatever know i am coming
Another thing that when the cage drivers get cited for either killing a motorcyclist or seriously injureing them all they get is a slap at the most. This needs to change so write your gov reps to get them to make tougher laws against these types of offense's.
I pray bin your brother in law makes a full recovery and can get back in the saddle soon

BD, No doubt you are a safe rider and i am glad to hear that. Most cage operators are oblivious to motor bike riders. I am always amazed when I get passed on the road or highway by a blur of a bike. To me, traveling at a high rate of speed scares the "bageebes" out of me. Even while in a car with some type of protection(not much) around myself I
look around at all the crazy California drivers in awe. But one thing that i find odd is when bike riders tail gate on the highway or when they pass other traffic at high rates of speed? falling off a bike at even 10 mph or less can kill you I can't imagine stacking at 60-90 mph and expect to live a somewhat normal life. I used to ride a bike but relized that I liked to go to fast and it was only a matter of time before....well, you know what might happen. I also used to hear people complain about bikes that weave through traffic at a stop light, to get to the front of the line. funny thing is, that although it make some people mad, it isn't ileagal as long as the rider dosn't pass on the far right side of the road.
"Bike riders, ride with care. Cage operators, respect and watch for bike riders" is a moto I like to hear.
Q: What action by the rider constitutes a complete stop at a light or sign?
A: at least one foot(in shoe) must touch the ground.
P.S. Not implying Bins bro in law was at fault in any way shape or form. hope he recovers fast.

Forget weaving in/out of traffic at a stop light - just last week I was passing a car on an interstate and a "crotchrocket" rider behind me I guess became impatient and went right BETWEEN me and the care I was passing.
I thought that if he crashed in front of me and lived and then I had to render assistance, I'd be yelling at him as I tried to help.
On the other hand, Harley riders always appear to be the safest, most patient riders on the road.

yes joe for the most part we harley riders are patient, while like every thing there is a few that need to go as fast as they can.having logged as many miles in both a truck and on my bike (s) i can say with the utmost certainty that its almost always the sport biker that every one sees as bad and what will stand in their minds as those darn biker's. You will see more and more people on bikes because of the gas price's, alot of them arent seasoned nor will they have a clue on how to ride.

Organ donor is the nickname for any rider without a helmet when i was on the Dept.
Although the biggest majority of Bike accidents are caused by the other driver.
Not to say there isn't riders out there that cause it themselves.
I once worked a fatality bike accident and he was going less than 20 mph. Bike slipped out on some sand in the road. He bumped his head as he hit the ground. Stood there and spoke with me and over a few minutes turned from polite, to very very aggressive...we had to force him on the ambulance and two officers had to hold him down to get to the hospital just a few blocks away. He died of a massive brain hemmorage within minutes of gets to the hospital.
I rode for years, and you have to keep your head turning and checking every direction. Cars just don't see bike as a threat so they don't fear pulling in front of one or cutting it off.
Also knew a harley rider that always had a ball peen hammer stuff in his handle bars. He used it to hit the fender or quarter panels of cars that cut him off...had many scratches in the head and handle from hitting the street and sliding along.....
Bin still ours prayers are with you and your family
